Artist Statement
I’ve long been fascinated by the moon and its quiet power — how its gravitational pull shapes life on Earth. My interest began with the tides. Watching waves crash against the ocean shore and ripple across a still lake, I was struck by the realization that both movements are connected to the same celestial force. That sense of awe led me to learn more about the moon and its effect on our planet. The moon moves not only the seas, but also the ground beneath us through subtle earth tides. It helps shape weather, guides animal migrations, and plays a role in reproduction for many species. It even influences human sleep, mood, and hormones. The moon’s pull is always at work, constantly shifting and reshaping the world— though with the distance of almost 250,000 miles, its connection remains invisible.
In my work, I search for ways to depict that unseen connection between the Earth and the sky. The moon, or allusions to it, keep appearing in my work. The moon is both an anchor and a source and is often surrounded by arcs, circles, and flowing lines that echo tides and orbits. Layers of color and texture build upon one another, suggesting the complexity of Earth and how things change over time. While the moon is my subject, it’s also my metaphor. It is a vehicle for exploring how everything is linked— not just the physical forces that shape the planet, but also the emotional ones that shape us. Each painting is a meditation on connection. This exhibit showcases artwork exploring the idea that unseen forces shape and change us just as the moon shapes and changes the world around us.
